Win Stat: Hold Serve App

Getting Started with the Win Stat: Hold Serve App

Notes Below Are For Update 1.2.2 – Awaiting Approval in The App Store

The Hold Serve App includes a stand alone iPhone app and stand alone Apple Watch app.  These two apps do not synchronize their serve data.

Apple Watch:

  • Designed to be used by the player for match training
  • May not be allowed in sanctioned competition
  • After each service point, click the appropriate button
    • 1st Won = Your first serve went in and you won the point
    • 1st Lost = Your first serve went in and you lost the point
    • 2nd Won = You missed your first serve and won the point
    • 2nd Lost = You missed your first serve, your second was in and you lost the point
    • Double = You missed your second serve on the last point
    • Check the game score after pressing each button to ensure the app recorded the serve accurately
    • If you press the wrong button, scroll down and click Undo Last
      • If you “Undo” more serves than recorded in the current game, the score will not reflect the current game score.  When the next game starts, press “Reset Score”
  • At your change over, scroll down and tap “Check Strategy” to view your chances of winning the next service point:
    • Chance of winning the next point if you hit a “1st serve” on your 2nd attempt vs. your standard 2nd Serve win %
      • This % takes into account the expected increase in double faults
    • Chance of winning the next point on your 1st attempt by hitting a “2nd serve” vs. your standard “1st serve” %
      • This percent is “2nd Serve In Win %” and therefore does not include double faults to make it consistent with the “1st Serve In” win %.
  • Colors of probability will change to green if changing tactics is warranted, and light gray if no change is recommended.
    • The color change will occur after 12 first serves and 12 2nd serves have been recorded.
  • Scroll to bottom and touch “Reset Statistics” to delete all recorded serves and start fresh
    • Take a screen shot of the old stats (click crown and side button simultaneously) before you reset so you can compare results later.
    • If you have decided to change your strategy, reset your statsistics so they reflect your new strategy.

iPhone App:

    • Designed to be used by coaches during a match or by coaches and players viewing match video
    • Record Serves:
      • If first serve is in:
        • Touch “Ace” if an Ace
        • Touch “Won” if point was won
        • Touch “Lost” if point was lost
      • If first serve was out:
        • Touch “Second” and then:
          • Touch “Ace” if an Ace
          • Touch “Double Fault” if a double fault
          • Touch “Won” if point was won
          • Touch “Lost” if point was lost
      • Check the game score to ensure the app recorded the serve accurately
      • If you press the wrong button, touch “All Serves” and swipe left the incorrect entry, press delete,  and press “Done” is upper right hand corner.
        • The score may not be accurate if deleted points are more than just the latest serves in the current game. If this occurs, touch “Reset Score” at the beginning of the next game.
      • Colors of probability will change to green if changing tactics is warranted, and light gray if no change is recommended.
        • The color change will occur after 12 first serves and 12 2nd serves have been recorded.
    • Touch “New Match” to erase all recorded serves and start fresh
